And some hot tea to add to the experience.Ī specialty of many of Chicago's Chinese restaurants is dim sum. In Chicago, some of the best Chinese restaurants are located in the Chinatown neighborhood, just south of downtown, although many are also found throughout the city, too. Other then their service and the disappointment that we didn't get to try the pork belly the food was good.Sometimes, when the urge to have Chinese dim sum strikes, nothing satisfies until you get it. So we paid and left even waiting for them to come take the check took 10 minutes. We were really looking forwards to pork belly but after all the foods have come to the table we were still waiting so we flag a waiter and asked he told use that they were very busy but it was coming, 15 more minutes later we flagged him again and he said 7 more minutes and scurried off the third time he grabs a second waiter and they rush off and say they didn't realize they missed our order and that they would get it back to us keep in mind at this time we've been waiting more then half and hour, my sister in law said you know never mind we want our check so we can pay and leave we had our 2 year old niece with us she wasn't going to sit still any longer. We ordered Cha Siu Bao, tofu, pot stickers, fried rice was ordered, custard, and other good foods. We were greeted and ordered water and tea while we waited came back with it rather quickly. My brother and sister in law took my husband and I to lunch upon my request, We made a reservation and took about 10 minutes to be seated but it was a Sunday so they were very busy. I was there again a few days ago and am already looking forward to my next visit. Phoenix has become my go-to Chinese restaurant in Chicago. Service has been courteous and efficient on all my visits. Unusually, dim sum dishes seem to be available during evenings, alongside their very good full menu: most restaurants stop serving dim sum mid-afternoon. On the basis of several visits, the quality is consistently excellent. Phoenix has dim sum carts at busy times, but also a comprehensive dim sum menu from which you can always order. Delectable! I am not a fan of dim sum from heated carts: sometimes the dishes seem to have been pushed around for too long and become tired and overcooked. ![]() The remainder of the bird is then stir-fried with vegetables. ![]() You don't have to do anything yourself - other than eat. A whole duck arrives at the table, and the server slices off the skin and prepares it with the usual hoisin sauce, cucumber and spring onions in either pancakes or steamed buns (your choice). I have had it here several times, and it is consistently delicious and well-served. I have it whenever possible on my travels. Will I return? Most likely NOT!īeijing duck is probably my favorite food. I could have gone elsewhere and get better service and hotter dim sum. Some of the dim sum were barely warm, some are hot. It took over 45 minutes before we got everything we ordered. We were seated to the side, second class citizens! Finally someone picked up the menu after I started waving it over my head!! Dim sum arrived as slow as my poor mother could walk. We ordered our dim sum from the pre-printed menu with pictures! But no one came to pick up the order! The wait staff seemed only walked around at certain area of the restaurant- in the center. you are not limited just the regular Chinese restaurant black tea. Tea such as jasmine, dragon well, mum's tea etc. In case you don't know, you can order specific kind of tea for dim sum. Got seated right away and waited and waited for wait staff to take our tea order. elevator was dirty and when look out the window it was disgusting ! Paper and dirt !! I should have known better and turned around. Took elevator to second floor dinning room. Went for dim sum on a Saturday morning with family. ![]()
